Maiden bloggage...

Hello everyone and welcome to the first ever blog dedicated to Stargate Vista - the all new Virtual Series due to premier in the first half of 2007.

If you're here then chances are you already know what Stargate is, and you’re at least vaguely familiar with the concept of a Virtual Series... but if by chance you're new to all this let’s summarize.
Stargate is a successful franchise that has been around now for little over a decade, covering two TV Series and one feature film.
A Virtual Series meanwhile is an episodic story distributed over the Internet. Usually written in script format it aims to imitate and pay homage to its source material or inspirations.

So, now that the messy work is out of the way lets get down to the introductions.

My name is Marcus A. Rogerson and I'm the Creator and Executive Producer of Stargate Vista.
It wasn't until several years ago that I discovered Stargate: Horizon. My first ever encounter with a Virtual Series - let alone a Stargate one. I read every episode they released for the longest time and while I may have been a silent observer I became deeply ingrained in the community surrounding it.
Again it would be several more years before the concept of Vista even entered my mind. Starting out as a fan fiction project that focused on the Atlantis team it rapidly evolved into what it is now - a highly anticipated, well-written and strong Virtual Series. Or at least, I hope that’s what it is.
But don't worry - for Stargate Vista isn't my child alone. Just like a real TV Series I have a production staff working on the series as well.
I'll save their introductions in fear of rambling on for too long - you'll get to meet and greet each other more personally in a later blog. Wear protection.

Now then, it's common knowledge that Stargate Vista is a secretive show, with almost no plot details out there on the web and very little promotion until now. And as such, in the similar way that the Atlantis team might do so with a can of worms, its time to open up, and spill some very juicy plot details, visuals and just all around coolness - but not all at once.

The year is 2014, with the Ori defeated and the Goa'uld menace on its last legs Earth found itself in a time of political discussion and relative peace. During this monumental shift in the state of affairs the United States government is pressured into going public about the existence of the Stargate Program.
With the various teams of the SGC quickly rising to super stardom and the events of past times becoming the subjects of documentaries and movies the world quickly gained a hunger for information. But not all went well during this shift from confidential to common knowledge. Some countries claimed that they had been controlling the future of humanity; many where angry at their lack of involvement and some, under a thin guise of political uproar, set their goals on acquiring their own supply of Naquadah.
Looking for a quick solution the United States government decided to completely rework the Stargate Program and after many false starts this led to the formation of GATO (Gate Alliance Treaty Organization).
In the midst of this shift is Ethaniel Winters... a newly promoted Colonel who is taking his first steps into his dream job, under the worst circumstances imaginable. He's always commanded his teams well - taken pride in how he treats his soldiers - but right now he's more worried about how he can command himself.
Meanwhile an aging prodigy is working in the unseen corners of Earth's off-world operations.
Jennifer Hailey, a brilliant young mind now hidden away in the lab, experimenting on technologies she should be procuring. Pushed to the side by the organization she helped to form...
With political tension still high, and the formation of GATO slowly coming to a balanced end many aspects of Earth's new off-world exploration drive are still in their early stages. The same can also be said of Earth itself. With people still in awe of the Stargate and the technologies procured via its use starting to make their way into everyday applications the human race is only at the beginning of this new era. An era that may soon come to a violent, unexpected end.
Meanwhile as the people of the Tau'ri look to the future the world of Tagrea looks to its past. With their fledgling Stargate program presenting new bases of knowledge and opportunity its people have begun to look into the days of old - when their world was ruled over by a tyrannical Goa'uld - and even before this.
One of the many Tagrean's eager to learn about his worlds past is Leonas Airevi. Looking to the history of the future to escape his own doubts he slowly comes to learn that even the places where we hide from ourselves can be horrifying.
Marching outwards into the desert regions that cover most of their world they find an arid, lifeless landscape peppered with the remains of the old days. Decaying settlements that their people once made home, religious monuments to the ancient gods and deities that this world once worshiped... before it became punishable by death. But, beneath the sands they also find something else. An object whose secrets have yet to be revealed.
An object of Ancient origin...

During the run of our series we will be exploring issues and subjects previously untouched in the realms of Stargate. From our deep and fully original characters, to our constantly evolving story we have taken months to craft and shape this series into the greatest vision we could possibly imagine.
Personally I've always seen writing in the same way that Stephen King so memorably does. Not as something controlled by the writer, but more as a fossil. Buried and forgotten, but ready to be unearthed in its full glory. That is the job of every writer... to unearth a story with care and precision, so that it can be seen and enjoyed by everyone. Uncover a bone with a brush, and you keep it intact and wonderful, but rush in with a spade and what you have in the end will be broken and brittle. By this metaphor I believe that the team working on Vista have uncovered nearly the entire fossil, and this premier post is us getting ready to show it too you - the viewers. We often find ourselves being surprised and ecstatic about the directions the series takes and we hope you will feel the same emotions when read it yourselves.

So, this coming week we will be posting three more blogs, one covering each subject we believe you want to know about, and we want you to tell you. Tomorrow we will be tackling the characters of Stargate Vista, and looking at how they form the heart of the show... so until then I hope this has served to peak your interest, and remember to keep your eyes on this spot, for the latest in exclusive news and spoilers from Stargate Vista.
